Tampa Bay Rays flattened by Red Hot Boston Red Sox 6-4 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox defeated Tampa Bay Rays 6-4 at the Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, April 15 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Rays’ pitcher Matt Moore had a poor time on the mound, giving up six runs and eight hits in just over 6 innings in his third start of the season. The Red Sox scored three runs off Moore in the second inning and the Rays, who trailed 4-0 in the fourth, were unable to recover from the deficit.
Rays’ skipper Maddon was a bit disappointed with the outcome of the game. In a post game interview, he stated that Moore pitched a lot better than what his stats were for the day.
For the Red Sox, David Ortiz made a valuable contribution, hitting his second home run in just two days. Alfredo Aceves showed great command over his pitching for his second save in three opportunities.
"That's pretty impressive," Tampa Bay's Carlos Pena said. "It seems like he's squaring the ball up every time he's up."
"Matt got us deep into the game," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "I thought he was still in good shape out there up until the end. They're just really hot right now."
The Rays have looked completely out of sorts since the start of their four-games encounter with the Red Sox. With four wins in their six games prior to this series, the Rays had made a decent start to the regular season. However, they paid a heavy price for their lack of concentration and confidence in their series against the Red Sox, losing three straight games against the Red Sox.
Posting just two runs, Rays’ batting line up failed miserably in the opening game. Tampa Bay was dominated in second game of the series as well as the Red Sox secured a comfortable 13-5 win. Another defeat to the Red Sox on Sunday night has now damaged their record to 4-5.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Joe Maddon and company has the ability to put up better numbers and it will be interesting to see if they can end the series on a respectable note.
