Tampa Bay Rays floor Toronto Blue Jays 7-1 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays eased past Toronto Blue Jays 7-1 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Monday, May 14 in the opening game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. The win will be of great importance for the Rays who had lost their previous series against Baltimore Orioles.
Rays have emerged as one of one of the strongest teams in American League this season. Their win on Monday evening was their 22nd of the season and it will be interesting to see if Joe Maddon and company can continue their excellent form throughout this year to make it to the playoffs and cheer up their fans.
Playing an aggressive brand of baseball away from their home, the Rays are certainly showing the comfort level they are feeling right now. With 13 wins in their 16 games at Tropicana Field, the Rays have successfully worked out a method to win games in front of their home crowd. However, they must win away games on regular basis to make it to the World Series finals.
Toronto, on the other hand, will be slightly disappointed with their performances over the last couple of weeks. They entered the series with a decent win-loss record and game plan should be revised if they want to bounce back in the next game. The Blue Jays displayed some high quality baseball skills during Spring Training Session and credit must be given to them for the record they have achieved with minimum resources.
For the Rays, Cesar Ramos won for the first time in his career, pouncing on the opportunity to replace the injured Jeff Niemann. Ben Zobrist, once again, made a valuable effort with his bat as he homered to help the Rays secure an easy win against the Blue Jays.
Elliot Johnson singled to centre in the fifth to level the score. Matt Joyce took complete advantage of a throwing error by first baseman Adam Lind and Zobrist scored. Luke Scott, Matt Joyce, Carlos Pena and Sean Rodriguez all rose to the occasion to lift the Rays to a comfortable win.
