Tampa Bay Rays hammer Toronto Blue Jays 12-1 – MLB Recap
Tampa Bay Rays hammered the Toronto Blue Jays 12-1 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, September 21 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
Rays entire batting line-up did well and earned a great victory for their team. They all hammered the Blue Jays pitchers with great force and edged past their opponents with ease.
"At some point, you've just got to say, 'Hey, it ain't working this way. Just let me chill out a little bit and go out there and play a little, I think for the most part, a lot of the guys are starting to find that more relaxed zone to play to in and hit in. I totally, absolutely believe we can do this,” manager Joe Maddon said on his team’s performance.
Centre fielder B.J. Upton scored one run and smashed one hit on his four at-bats while he also maintained his slugging percentage at .449.
Rays’ shortstop Ben Zobrist batted three times and scored two runs and smashed two hits along with an RBI. He stood tall against the Blue Jays’ batters and maintained his slugging percentage at .465.
Third baseman Evan Longoria did well on the plate and scored two runs and smashed three hits. He batted four times and maintained his slugging percentage at .491.
"It was pretty promising today, I saw a lot of spark and life we haven't seen in the dugout as of late. You hope it's not too little, too late," slugger Evan Longoria said on his performance as well as on his team’s overall performance which proved too good for the Blue Jays entire side.
Along with batters, the Tampa Bay Rays’ pitchers also played tremendously and won the game for their team.
Starter James Shields pitched seven innings and received six hits. He did not allow any run and retired nine Blue Jays' batters while he also maintained his ERA at 3.65.
Relief pitcher Brandon Gomes pitched one solid inning and received one run on three hits. He struck-out one while he also remained consistent at 5.40 ERA.
