Tampa Bay Rays lose to Baltimore Orioles 6-10 – MLB News
Baltimore Orioles secured a comfortable 10-6 win against the Tampa Bay Rays at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, April 19th in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter will be extremely happy with his team’s effort. With their win on Friday evening, the Orioles improved their record to 8-7 and it will be interesting to see if Showalter and company can continue the good work throughout this
season to reach the playoffs for the second straight year. Despite making a poor start to the season last year, the Orioles lifted their spirits to finish second on the American League East Division standings table. However with more strength and variety in
their pitching and batting lineup they will be looking to win the AL East title this year.
"It's huge for us to get the feel for it, how we did it last year," third baseman Manny Machado said.
"I felt like it was going to go," Wieters said. "I knew it was going to get a run in, whether it went out or not. I knew the game was going to be over. That was a good feeling."
"Offense was fantastic," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "We did a lot of good things, but Baltimore outplayed us in this series."
A lot of credit should be given to the pitching rotation for holding its nerves under immense pressure. Starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez showed great fighting abilities in a high scoring encounter as he allowed eight hits and five runs in five plus innings.
Relief pitcher Daren O’Day was the star of the show as he allowed just one hit to grab his first win of the season.
As they have done so often in the recent past, the Orioles outclassed their opponents in the final innings to clinch a stunning victory against their American League rivals. Manny Machado, Chris Davis and Matt Wieters drove in crucial runs to help the Orioles
come back from behind to prevail in a nail biting contest.
