Tampa Bay Rays lose to Chicago White Sox 2-5 – MLB News
Tampa Bay Rays were beaten by the Chicago White Sox 2-5 at US Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, April 25 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Rays continued to disappoint their fans as they took their 12th loss of the season. Despite having some great hitters and pitchers in their squad, the Rays have struggled to give consistent results so far this season. Rays’
batting lineup once again failed to live up to the expectations, posting just two runs on the board. It will be interesting to see if the Rays can regroup and fight back in Game 2 to keep the series alive.
"Tonight (Sale) worked his way through it and I think at the end you're looking at what you would expect, but with some little bumps in the road," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "The way he battled back is what you like seeing."
"It's hard to sit here and tell everybody you feel good and the results aren't there, but I do feel good. I have felt good for the most part of the season," Adam Dunn said. "Obviously the results aren't where I want them."
White Sox, on the other hand, will be very happy with the outcome of the clash. However, they have also been struggling to win games on regular basis and it will be challenge for them to continue their winning streak to earn their first
series sweep of the season.
Rays’ starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson struggled to pitch with control and accuracy as he allowed five hits and five runs in six innings to take his second loss of the season. Although he struck out eight batters, Hellickson failed to
respond under pressure.
Relief pitchers Jamey Wright and Brandon Gomes combined to toss up two scoreless innings but the night belonged to the White Sox who held on to their slim lead to secure a deserving victory. Evan Longoria and Jobe Lobtaon made useful contributions
with their bat but unfortunately their effort also went in vain.
