Tampa Bay Rays’ manager Joe Maddon agrees to three-year contract extension – MLB News
The Tampa Bay Rays’ team manager Joe Maddon has agreed with the management on a mutual understating of three-year contract extension in order to calm the late situation that somewhat threatened both sides’ common future and probably the Rays’ results next season.
Rays’ executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said with jubilation and quite confidence, "I would expect and assume that we're going to work together for a long time."
Later Maddon said, "I don't want to go anywhere else. I love it here; I've been given an opportunity here to do what I'm doing without the constraints, in a sense. It's a very free environment to work within, and I need that, and I appreciate that. I know the grass -- the turf -- is not any greener anywhere else, I wanted to be here. We've really grown a lot over the last several years; we’ve come up short the last two years in the playoffs."
Experts believe this was almost the last serious contract extension by the Tampa Bay Rays’ management, who have been extensively working hard on their internal issues this offseason. This is also good news that before Spring Training, the Rays have solved all of their potential extension issues relating to players and team executives.
The late deal with Maddon was not disclosed in public but sources are commenting that both sides agreed on a decent amount of money including some perks as well. Maddon, who has won the 2008 and 2011 American League Manager of the Year Award, is certainly a great count for the Rays’ franchise in the long run. This fact is also in the news that only Maddon is capable of raising the level of consistency in the Rays' franchise. They have tried plenty of managers before but Maddon is the only triumphant manager who truly discovered the Rays’ playing style from defensive to offensive.
From 2006 onwards, Maddon has also put the Rays’ on top in their own Division. His offensive approach has benefitted the team enormously and now his extension will help the Rays’ entire roster for the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
