Tampa Bay Rays officially sign designated hitter Luke Scott – MLB Update
The Tampa Bay Rays have officially signed free agent designated hitter Luke Scott to a one year deal worth $2.75 million.
Scott is a good player and has been playing in the Major League for quite some time now. He joined the Rays last year but after the season was ended, he filed for free agency.
His free agency proved good for him as he started receiving many offers from different teams but lately considered more wisely and joined again the Tampa Bay Rays for another season.
Last season he did well on the plate and hit with exceptional hitting average of .229 along with 14 home runs, 55 RBIs and .285 OBP. Overall he also possesses good career hitting average of .260 along with 126 home runs, 396 RBIs and .341 OBP.
Meanwhile, the Rays also relieved with the signing of second baseman Kelly Johnson. Kelly Johnson is coming from Toronto Blue Jays where he spent the last whole Major League season achieving consistent hitting average of .225.
Now with the Rays, he is feeling stronger and wants to be more in control next season.
"The reason we kept going (in negotiations) was my openness to do that. I'm absolutely open to do that. I'm excited. I expect to see time in the outfield, second base, That process is ongoing, I'm stubborn and slow to make an adjustment that would get me
back on track,” Johnson said Tuesday night and explained about his inclusion in the Tampa Bay Rays.
Later Tampa Bay Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman also said for Johnson’s arrival in the team, “We're excited about what Kelly is capable of doing, I think he'd be the first to say that last year was a down year. We think
he has a chance to be really good addition and provide a lot of value for us offensively and also with impending versatility defensively."
Major League experts also believe that Kelly Johnson and Luke Scott will provide great offence to the Tampa Bay Rays. Both are experienced individuals and know very well about their opponents.
