Tampa Bay Rays’ outfielder Hideki Matsui hurt with hamstring tightness – MLB News
The Tampa Bay Rays’ outfielder Hideki Matsui will miss some serious playing time as he was recently suffering from hamstring tightness in a game against the New York Yankees.
Though team doctors have not stated in the media about the complexity of his condition, but it is quite sure that the Tampa Bay management is worried over their player’s late injury.
"Right now, I feel like it's calmed down," Matsui said.
Matsui added, "Typically, when a right-hander hits a ball like that, it tends to drift into the foul area, so I took my eyes off just for a moment, and then when I looked back the ball had actually come back and so by that time I couldn't react to it and missed the ball."
His injury took place on Monday when he chased a foul ball into right-field off Derek Jeter’s hit where he could not balance himself. As soon as he arrived in dugout, the Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon quickly removed him and told him to get some rest.
Later it was revealed that Matsui has hamstring tightness and he will miss some potential time before coming back onto the field.
Before Monday, the nine-year veteran and Tampa Bay’s star player was performing well with .177 hitting along with two homers, seven RBIs and .235 OBP.
On the other hand, the Tampa Bay’s right hander pitcher Jeremy Hellickson is feeling better after getting his shin bruised which also made him stay out from the field for quite some time now.
On Monday, he returned and tossed a good pitching session and will be ready to start on Thursday against the Cleveland Indians.
"It was normal, it’s still a little sore, but it's tolerable, and I threw my bullpen just fine. It's night and day today than compared to yesterday, hopefully, tomorrow it'll be even better." Hellickson said.
In the meanwhile, the Tampa Bay management is pleased that they are playing smoothly and with a comparatively low DL list. Their pitcher has already recovered and if Matsui can also come back soon, the chances are high that they will play better after the All-Star break with extra chances of getting into the post season as well.
