Tampa Bay Rays show interest in catcher Jorge Posada – MLB News
The Tampa Bay Rays are showing great interest in free agent/catcher and designated hitter, Jorge Posada for a potential deal. This agreement might cover a long term contract or short one, but this is certain that the Rays are now in bursting mood to include
Posada for the next Major League Baseball season.
Already Jose Molina’s presence in the franchise is extremely boosting for the entire roster and if Posada does make his arrival in the Rays next year, the Rays certainly will be on a row to clinch the division title. Posada will also play as backup for Molina,
who considerably has large experience in the league.
Posada could not play as good as he was expected to behind the plate last season. He only played six innings in his last year of contract with the New York Yankees. Though, he was not much influential as a catcher, but he batted with big energy.
Going with .235 at hitting average along with 14 home-runs, 44 RBIs and .315 OBP, he was the Yankees’ best stat producer in 2011. While his overall hitting average of .273 with 275 homers, 1065 RBIs and .374 OBP also makes him a good player at this particular
position.
Before becoming a free agent this offseason, Posada however, showed his interest to remain in the Yankees franchise for several more years but due the lack of financial stability in the club, the Yankees did not exercise team options on him and allowed him
to file for free agency.
Later, as soon as he was declared a free agent by Major League authorities, many teams started to approach Posada and his agent. Even at that time, the Rays were the first team to offer him a potential contract as now again at end of the offseason, the Rays
are approaching him to make a deal.
Although, both sides are silent and making no official calling, experts believe that Jorge Posada is surely heading towards Tampa Bay Rays and whenever the next MLB season would begin, Posada would emerge in a different uniform.
