Tampa Bay Rays sink Seattle Mariners 5-4 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays continued their sensational form as they battled past Seattle Mariners 5-4 at the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on Wednesday, May 2 in third game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Kyle Seager provided the Mariners with an extremely aggressive start as he homered to right centre in the first. Ichiro Suzuki and Jesus Montero scored to help Seattle take a 3-0 lead. Rays’ striker Sean Rodriguez played his natural game even under pressure
and he homered to left centre in the third to reduce the deficit to 2-3.
Jose Molina’s two run double in the fourth allowed the Rays to come back from behind and take the lead 4-3. Seager hit his second home-run of the game in the sixth inning and Seattle levelled at 4-4 but Luke Scott turned the tables with a towering home-run
to centre to give a 5-4 lead to the Rays, which lasted till the end of the game.
"To be honest, I don't really know what happened there," Mariners’ centre-fielder Michael Saunders said. "I know I got a piece of the ball. That's it. ... It was just one of those plays that happened so fast. I hit the wall and came down without the ball."
"We fought until the last out of the game. That's what our team is about, and what we've been doing all season," James Shields said. "And again, our bullpen was phenomenal."
Joe Maddon and company have looked in outstanding form since the start of their four games match-up with Seattle. Rays’ ability to handle the pressure has played a key role in deciding the outcome of the series. All three games of this series have been played
on an extremely competitive note.
Seattle put up a brilliant fight in the opening game but the Rays outplayed them in finer details of the game to earn a thrilling 3-2 victory. The Rays prevailed in another low scoring encounter in the following game to dent their rivals’ confidence level.
With their win over the Mariners on Wednesday evening, the Rays improved their season record to 17-8.
