Tampa Bay Rays suffer humiliating 2-6 loss against Baltimore Orioles – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays suffered a humiliating 2-6 loss against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, July 26 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Rays’ Manager Joe Maddon will be disappointed with the outcome of the clash on Thursday afternoon. After dominating the Orioles in first two games of the series, the Rays were looking to continue their excellent work in finale to earn a rare series sweep
in Baltimore.
"It was their day today, it was not our day," Tampa Bay manager John Maddon said. "However, if for the rest of the season whenever we play a team three games and we win two of them, I'm very, very happy. You get greedy when you win the first two ... but
they've been playing pretty well."
Credit should be given to the starting pitcher Chris Tillman who used his fastballs to great effect to lay the foundation of an impressive Orioles’ victory. Tillman gave up just five hits and two runs for his third win of the season. His counterpart from
the Rays, James Shields looked completely out of sorts as he struggled to execute his game plan.
Shields allowed six hits and five runs while striking-out ten to take his seventh loss of the year. Relief pitcher Burke Badenhop was also unable to contain Orioles’ hitters, giving up a run in his two wavered innings.
For the Orioles Adam Jones displayed some top quality hitting skills with an RBI single to left. Nick Markakis and J.J. Hardy scored to put their side 2-0 ahead.
Chris Davis, Matt Wieters and Jones made useful contributions in the fifth to take the lead beyond their opponents’ reach.
"It meant a lot especially with the quick turnaround from last night," Davis said in a post game interview. "Sometimes you're going to be hot, sometimes you're not, but hopefully we'll start stringing hits together and put some runs up on the board."
Rays’ right-fielder Sam Fuld doubled to left in the seventh inning to help his team avoid a shut-out.
