Tampa Bay Rays’ third-baseman Evan Longoria looks healthy after suffering several injuries in 2011
The Tampa Bay Rays’ third-baseman Evan Longoria is looking in great health after suffering numerous injuries last season. He arrived in Arizona in 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training with his other teammates last week. From pain in left oblique to left foot, Longoria was certainly not in the best of health last year.
"He was beat up. He played through a lot of stuff last year," Rays' manager Joe Maddon said. "He won't talk about it.”
Longoria’s injuries cost him 26 important games at the start of the season. He did not look comfortable on the field while on the other hand, his pain caused the management some fear as what will happen if their ace player did not recover.
Not only were his injuries were ruining his own game, but the Rays’ also felt down in their star player’s absence. However, the Rays’ trainers and doctors worked hard on Longoria enabling him to play once again within two months.
As soon as he came out on the field, not only the Rays’ confidence went high, but his game also reached new heights. He performed wonderfully and led his team in home-runs (31), RBIs (99) and walks (80).
The continuous struggle of his game proved wonderful for the Tampa Bay Rays as they achieved a playoff spot in the competition.
"He did, and he had a great year," Maddon said. "At the end of the day what he did, on the last day, that's a pretty good season right there to come back from where he came back from."
Lately, the Rays’ third-baseman is looking good on the field and training hard in Spring Training. His fitness is very important for the Rays’ to compete well in the next season. Longoria has also lately said during his work outs with the team.
“Zero weight training but a lot of movement that actually, in my opinion, translates better into baseball stuff," Longoria said. "A lot of the workouts were conceived from a lot of the stuff we do on the field.”
In the meanwhile, this is a good sign for the Rays’ as their one of the ace players is feeling good and will eventually help the team achieve good results next season.
