Tampa Bay Rays’ third baseman Evan Longoria shows optimism ahead of 2012 season – MLB News
The Tampa Bay Rays’ talented third-baseman Evan Longoria is showing some great optimism ahead of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season after battling out a total of two seasons with several injuries as he could not play the entire schedule in both 2010 and 2011.
Recently he gave an interview and told the reporters that he is feeling perfectly okay and confident as in this upcoming season might represent his team in all 162 games.
Longoria said on Friday, “That was the focus for me. I feel great. So I hope it pays off. At Athletes' Performance everybody focused on your weight and intake and what you're putting in your body, and there's no right or wrong there, but it just wasn't right for me,”
He added, “I don't want to deal with what I had to deal with last year. I did as much as I could to try and strengthen all those muscles so I'm as close to 100 percent as I could be coming in.”
Last year, Longoria played a total 133 games due to injuries but was still able to play an important role for Tampa Bay achieving a .244 hitting average along with 31 home-runs, 99 RBIs and .355 OBP. However, playing almost four seasons with the the Rays, he has achieved a consistent .274 hitting average, with 113 homers, 401 RBIs and .360 OBP and is now considered one of the best hitters in the franchise. His past season’s performance was also recognised by many baseball experts.
Now, his recovery and much enthusiasm before the start of the next season is a pretty positive attitude for the whole Tampa Bay Rays’ roster. Being one of the youngest players in the current Tampa Bay 40-man roster, Longoria certainly possesses some huge talent, bringing his team once again in the line of World Series front-runners.
His past record from playing at junior level in College to become a successful professional baseball player also shows a great optimistic inner factor of his game that he will undoubtedly provide with some tremendous performances as helps lead the Tampa Bay Rays to another elevated season.
