Tampa Bay Rays thrash Chicago White Sox 6-2 as David Price wins 20th game - MLB Update
Starter David Price wins his 20th game as the Tampa Bay Rays thrash the Chicago White Sox 6-2 at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago, Illinois on September 30, 2012 in the last match of the four game series.
Rays started off extremely well as they added two runs in the first inning. Afterward, they had to make sure the opposition does not bounce back and blow their lead. As they were successful in this regard, they went on to win the game.
Although White Sox fought back in the fourth inning, the lead of the Rays was substantial and needed something extraordinary from the opposition to be dismantled.
Apart from the offence, Tampa Bay witnessed their starter completing an incredible spell of seven innings. David Price was immaculate on the mound. Except for the fourth, he went through the innings scoreless. It was his 20th win of the season
for the Tampa Bay.
Price was followed by the relievers. His exclusion from the mound was taken as an opportunity by the White Sox for producing runs. However, Rays’ relievers proved equally formidable for the batters as they did not allow them to score runs.
John Maddon, manager for Tampa Bay, heaps praise on Price. Considering the circumstances under which Price threw and produced wins for the team, he has been terrific throughout the season.
"The 20 wins, he should have like 25 wins," Maddon said. "He's pitched well enough to have mid-20s based on our lack of scoring runs sometimes. The ERA is highly impressive, pitching in this division, this league, the DH. ... It all matters. To be able to
accomplish that here is quite an accomplishment."
Price is focused on playing as well as possible for the team. He is of the view that, irrespective of their chances to make it to the playoffs, players must perform up to the potential in the remaining games.
"We still have a chance to get in with a good series against Baltimore ... We need a little help from Texas, but we have to continue to win and hopefully we get back in like last year," said Price.
With the momentum on their side, the Rays will be looking to build on the positive and keep showing splendid performances.
