Tampa Bay Rays thrash Los Angeles Angels 5-0 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays thrashed Los Angeles Angels 5-0 at the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on Tuesday, April 24 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
The Angels have looked in remarkable form since the start of the season and Rays’ emphatic victory can be of great significance. It is a clear indication of what the Rays are capable of.
Earlier this month, Tampa Bay brushed aside New York Yankees 3-0 to earn their first series sweep of the year. The Rays certainly have the ability to floor even the best in the business but they will be hoping to be more consistent in their upcoming games
to gain the winning momentum.
Desmond Jennings looked in prime form as he helped the Rays get off to a positive start, driving in the first run of the game. Luke Scott, B.J. Upton and Carlos Pena also had great time on the plate as they all hit solo home runs to take Angels out of the
equation completely.
Angels’ starter Ervin Santana is having a forgettable time on the mound this season. Santana, who has now allowed two home runs in each of his previous four starts, was hit for four homers during the contest. Albert Pujols went 0 for 4 and he is hitless
for 16 at bats now.
"I'm not trying to go out there to try to do too much," Pujols said. "I've been in this situation before. It's part of the game. You can't let into your head. You just need to keep fighting and knowing it's a long season."
However, the star of the show was David Price who gave up all singles in his first to earn his third win of the season.
"Great command of all his pitches," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "He pretty much brought out the kitchen sink. Probably one of his best performances as far as using his entire repertoire."
The Rays will be very pleased with the way they have started the three match series with the Angels and it will be interesting to see if they can maintain their excellent form throughout the series to improve their 10-7 win-loss record.
