Tampa Bay Rays tie with Philadelphia Phillies 6-6 – MLB Spring Training
Tampa Bay Rays tied with Philadelphia Phillies 6-6 at the Charlotte Sports Park in Charlotte, Florida on March 15 in their Grapefruit League clash of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
In a post game interview, Rays’ Manager Joe Maddon praised his team’s efforts. The hitting department performed beyond Manager’s expectations. Luke Scott had his first hit with the Rays while Sam Fuld and Reid Brignac both went 2 for 3 to help the Rays stay
in the hunt.
Rays’ starter Wade Davis looked very frustrated with his efforts as he gave up four runs including three earned in four innings. Striking out just three and allowing eight hits, Davis will be looking to turn the tables on his next spring appearance. The
guy is trying hard to win the fifth starting spot on Rays’ pitching rotation. It will be interesting to see if he can succeed in his ambitions.
"All those little things matter," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "Getting the signs right, playing the game properly, playing nine innings hard to the very end was all apparent today."
"I physically felt good," Davis said. "A little sluggish at first getting into it, but after we got going I got a better rhythm. Executing the curveball was better, and everything was a little bit sharper. I've just got to sharpen up a little bit on my spots,
my fastball, and I think we'll be in a pretty good place."
The Rays will be very pleased with the way they fought during the contest. Having lost eight games this spring, Joe Maddon and his men are certainly struggling to find momentum. Rays’ win on Thursday can prove to be very crucial as it will provide them with
much needed confidence.
Philadelphia, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their failure to cross the final hurdle. It will not be wrong to say that they were inconsistent during the contest, which played a key role in deciding the outcome of the encounter. With just six
wins in 13 games this spring, they will also have some serious work to do to change the course of their spring campaign.
