Tampa Bay Rays trade James Shields to Kansas City Royals – MLB Update
During the 2012 Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings in Nashville, the Tampa Bay Rays’ management indicated that they are planning to trade with some leading MLB franchise while now is coming that they have successfully traded their two talented players
to Kansas City Royals.
The Rays took a bold step sending their two most reliable players pitcher James Shields and Wade Davis. In-return, the Rays’ received four of Kansas City Royals’ prospects. Some say this trade move is one of the biggest deals in the Rays history which will
now give them slight room to groom their overall players’ output in the coming MLB seasons.
"We are constantly working to balance the present and the future and always trying to thread the needle, As an organization, we rely on the contributions of our young players basically more than anyone else in baseball,” Rays executive vice president of
baseball Andrew Friedman said on recent trade.
He added and explained all the possible aspects which led the Rays to trade James Shields and Wade Davis, "With this trade we're hoping to replenish our system and add a lot of players that we feel like can help us sustain this run of success that we've
had the last five years."
He further added, “Personally I think this is the most difficult trade we've made to date, Both guys were drafted and developed here. They've been key players in this organization's turnaround.”
James Shield, playing the last Major League Baseball season for the Rays, finished with good numbers and received enormous appreciation. With 3.52 ERA along with 15-10 win-loss, 223 strikeouts and 1.17 WHIP, Shield certainly showed a spirited performance.
Overall his six-year career stats are also quite consistent at 3.89 ERA along with 87-73 win-loss, 1250 strikeouts and 1.22 WHIP.
Wade Davis is also considered a good Major League campaigner and will be providing a great offensive help to his new team in Kansas City. He too remained consistent with his performances and achieved persistent numbers. He finished the last season achieving
2.43 ERA along with 3-0 win-loss, 87 strikeouts and 1.09 WHIP.
