Tampa Bay Rays upset Texas Rangers 5-2 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays continued their sensational run as they outplayed Texas Rangers 5-2 at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas in the decider finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. With their win over the Rangers
on Sunday, April 29, the Rays improved their record to 14-8.
Making the most of available opportunities in the second and the third, the Rays established complete control over the contest. Ben Zobrist had an RBI and three hits to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. David Price pitched with great
precision as he allowed just two runs and six hits in just over six innings to earn his fourth win of the season.
"Personally, for myself, I've never beat those guys, so first and foremost, that feels great," Price said. "But I'm pumped that we won. I can turn that page now. It feels great. They've got power 1 through 9. They can hit the ball out to any part of the
ballpark here. You've got to be able to make pitches and keep the ball down."
"David probably was not as sharp as the last game, but nevertheless very effective," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "I thought he pitched with a lot of composure."
Rays have bounced back strongly after experiencing a huge dip in their form. Joe Maddon and company started the season on a fine note, beating New York Yankees 3-0 away from their home. Without a shadow of a doubt, they will be feeling very confident about
themselves after flooring the best team of 2012 season.
If Tampa Bay can continue their impressive form throughout the season, they can surely lift the World Series trophy and surprise MLB followers. Rangers, on the other hand, will be disappointed at losing their first series in a long time. They looked in some
control early on when Josh Hamilton single to right centre to give them a 1-0 lead but Hamilton, who is the leading home run and RBI’s scorer in the American League, was unable to produce runs in closing stages of the game and the Rays secured an emphatic
series victory.
