  1. Peru?

    Here's info:

  2. Diarrhea, severe headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness, high fevers, vomiting, a rash resembling a sunburn on the feet or palms and a sudden decrease in blood pressure are all symptoms of Toxic Shock Syndrome and should be reported ASAP. The two major ways that TSS is treated once it has been contracted are to treat the symptoms (i.e. low blood pressure) with various medications and intravenous liquids. Your physician will more than likely also prescribe an antibiotic to help eliminate the bacteria.

  3. You've got two good responses to your question. I'm just wondering why this question is in the Peru category. So I'm going to take a guess:

If you're traveling in Peru and you think you're suffering from TSS, you can always try to see a doctor ... or you can do what the locals do - see your local pharmacist.

Walk in to the nearest pharmacy (as long as it doesn't look too dirty or understocked) and ask the pharmacist. Point to a box of tampons or take the instruction paper from inside a box to show if communication is a problem. In Peru pharmacists do more than fill prescriptions - they analyze your problem, tell you what they think it is, then give you any medicine they recommend or you request. No prescription needed!

Keep in mind this is a quick fix - it's what locals do. This is what I did when I developed a UTI last time in Peru. I never once saw a doctor, but took the medicine a pharmacist recommended based on my symptoms. (I didn't know it was a UTI until I got back to the US.) When I got back to the US a couple days later and saw a professional about it, they prescribed the exact same medicine (which was much cheaper in Peru!).

However, if you have a serious concern for your well-being, try to find a doctor. And if you're not even in Peru and just messed up the categories, then never mind!
