Tan Bin Shen and Gan Teik Chai confident to qualify for 2012 London Olympics – Badminton news
Malaysia’s young and passionate shuttlers, Tan Bin Shen and Gan Teik Chai are confident to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics in the category of Men’s Doubles and become the first independent pair to represent Malaysia.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia has made it clear that independent shuttlers can also participate in the Olympic Games, if they qualify on merit. This announcement has filled Tan Bin and Gan Teik with passion and now, they are determined to grab the
chance by playing to their full potential at upcoming international events.
The top seeds in Malaysia, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat will be the favourites for the titles but for becoming the second pair of Malaysia in Olympic Games, the spirited Tan Bin and Gan Teik are quite passionate.
The chances of becoming a part of the Olympic squad are bright for Tan Bin and Gan Teik, as their higher ranked shuttlers, Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari and Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif have resigned from the national team.
World Number 25 pair of Tan Bin and Gan Teik will be among the hot favourites to become the second seeds in Malaysia, and are expected to qualify for the London Olympics which will take place at Wembley Arena in London, England.
Gan Teik said, “The regulations for the Olympic Games have become stricter. Even to qualify is not an easy task but we still have a chance to fight for it. There is a clear guideline for participation at the Olympics and we will try to qualify for it.”
While thanking sponsors, Teik added, “We are grateful our sponsors are on our side and supporting us. We will try not to disappoint them.”
The qualifying round for the mega event has begun since May 1, 2011, and every tournament on the BWF calendar will award precious points to the contenders which will help them to qualify for the Olympic Games. Tan Bin and Gan Teik are confident to avail
the chance this time, by proving their worth in forthcoming international tournaments.
