Tan Bin and Gan Teik lament that BAM has disregarded the world ranking: Badminton News
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles pair of Tan Bin Shen and Gan Teik Chai lamented on the fact that the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has disregarded the world rankings of players, which is the right criteria to qualify in the World Badminton Championships.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) gives ranking points to players through their participation in different qualifying events for the World Championships and Olympic Games. To disregard the selection criteria of BWF is not the right way to deal things
with.
Gan Teik said, "BWF has clearly stated that world ranking is the basis of qualification for any tournament including the World Championships, so it is unacceptable and unfair for Chin Chai to say BAM has disregarded the aspect. If not for the world ranking,
none of the BAM pairs will be in contention for selection."

He further added, "We (Teik Chai-Bin Shen) have paid our way to play in 16 tournaments in the hope of qualifying for the World Championships and we have achieved that.”
Gan also expressed that the decision was taken by some certain persons and the discussion was not made by the Training and Coaching Committee (CTC). This biased decision will dent the image of BAM. He said that they (Tan Bin and Gan Teik) are not a part
of BAM and there are no regulations to protect the rights of the independent players
However, Ng Chin Chai, the Secretary of BAM said earlier that it was the collective decision of all officials to send the world number 27 pair of Hoon Thien How and Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif on the place of World Number Seventeen, Tan Bin and Gan Teik.
Ng Chin also added that Hoon Thien and Mohd Zakry have been playing well for the last six months. Their consistent performance in the international tournaments has proved that they are more suitable to participate in the World Championships.
The issue is expected to be discussed by CTC as many members have already expressed their displeasure over the decision taken by BAM.
