Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat determined to work hard for upcoming major events: Badminton News
Malaysia’s pair, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat, are determined to work hard for the upcoming major events. The duo won the 2011 Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, in Malaysia, on Sunday May 8. They are passionate to stretch their winning performance
in the 2011 World Badminton Championships, starting from August 8, in England.
Tan Boon and Koo Kien have won an international event after a long gap of almost 15 months, as their last title came in the Malaysia Open Super Series in January, 2010. Tan Boon said that it was very difficult for the pair to get rid of the bad patch
and there is much more to do for remaining at the top level.
“We struggled throughout the week. We lived dangerously in every match against the lower ranked pairs before winning. Fortunately, we won but there is more work to be done,” Tan Boon said.
In the final match of Malaysia Open GP Gold, Tan Boon and Koo Kien won against Indonesia’s duo, Hendra Gunawan and Alven Yulianto. The Malaysian shuttlers remained lucky as Alven received a severe injury and could not play well.
Tan Boon is optimistic about the performance of the pair and stressed that they need to work extremely hard to excel in performance in the World Championships.
He said, “We have to strengthen our hearts and minds to handle all kind of challenges. It is not only about having the skills but also the right mindset on court. If we can master this, we will be able to do well at the world championships.”
In the 2010 World Championships, Tan Boon and Koo Kien remained a little unlucky and lost the final match against the top Chinese pair of Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng.
In the 2011 World Badminton Championships, the most prominent shuttlers, beside the top pairs of China and Malaysia, are also some other top pairs including Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae of Korea, Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe of Denmark and Indonesian
pair of Hendra Setiawan and Markis Kido.
