Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat fail to win against World Champions at the Japan Open Super Series
Malaysia’s Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat failed to convert their elevated play into a victory over ruling World Champions, Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng of China in the Men’s Doubles semi-final of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series, in Tokyo, on Saturday, September
24.
World Number Five pair of Tan Boon and Koo Kien has been struggling hard to find winning form and they were quite close to win the title, but failed as they were lacking the finishing touch in their strokes at the concluding points. The Chinese opponents
played better badminton in the critical stage and won the match with a narrow margin in three games.
The Malaysian duo lost the first set with a 17-21 margin, but bounced back in the second game and won it by the difference of 21-19. The deciding game progressed tightly until the ending points, where the Malaysians failed to dominate the game and lost the
final set with a 19-21 score. The end result of this wonderful semi-final fight was 17-21, 21-19 and 19-21.
However, Doubles coach, Pang Cheh Chang is confident that the Malaysian shuttlers will find a better standing at the 2012 London Olympics. They are getting better when compared to six months back and now, their major target is to remain consistent in all
upcoming events to remain on track for the mega event.
Cheh Chang said, “I saw better performances from them and that is a good starting point. They lost today because they failed to make the right decisions in crucial situations. They took great risks with their shots but were unable to convert them into winners.”
The coach is determined to help out the pair in every possible way for finding good results at Olympic Games. He said, “Kien Keat-Boon Heong must know by now that everyone is ready to help them to turn their game around. We will give them our undivided attention
until the London Olympic Games.”
Tan Boon and Koo Kien will come into action again at the 2011 Denmark Open Premier Super Series, which will take place from October 18-23 in Denmark.
