Tan Boon Heong confident to get back on winning track in current year – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles top shuttler, Tan Boon Heong, is confident to end his prolonged bad run with his partner, Koo Kien Keat, and perform well in the current year. He is quite positive in getting back on the right track to win glory for his country.
In 2011, Boon Heong and Kien Keat could only manage to win one tournament in the form of Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold, which was held in May, 2011. However, they failed to prove their worth in Super Series and Premier Super Series tournaments throughout
the year.
Two years of bad run have casted doubts on their performance in the 2012 Olympic Games, which are just six months away. But Boon Heong is confident to perform well in all forthcoming international events and find a better position in the Men’s Singles draw
in the mega event.
Boon Heong and Kien Keat, who are currently placed at number six in the Men’s Doubles world rankings, are working really hard in training sessions to eliminate their physical and mental weaknesses and are expected to find a good form before Olympics.
The top seeds in Malaysia have been facing problems while playing against all top shuttlers including China’s Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng and Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun – Yoo Yeon Seong and Jung Jae Sung – Lee Yong Dae.
Because of their bad performance, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) hired Yoo Yong Sung, a Korean Coach, to help Boon Heong and Kien Keat in the elevation of their skills.
Boo Heong said, “We’re working extra hard to change things and I thought we did pretty well against Jae-sung-Yong-dae in the Superseries Finals ... it was only due to mistakes in the end that we lost. Our problem is our inconsistency.”
He further added, “I don’t want to dwell too much on the past. I’m looking forward to the new year, starting with the Korean Open ... which I hope will bring us better fortune.”
While talking about his plans for the upcoming event of Korea Open Premier Super Series 2012, starting from January 3, Boon Heong said that the pair will focus on every match from the first round and will try to get good results in the tournament.
