Tan Boon Heong sets high targets for the Badminton World Championships 2011 – Badminton News
Malaysia’s top seed in Men’s Doubles, Tan Boon Heong, has set high target for the upcoming Badminton World Championships 2011, which will kick-off in London, on June 8, 2011.
Boon Heong and his partner, Koo Kien Keat, have been participating in all major events for the last six years. However, for the last one year, the Malaysian duo is struggling hard to find their momentum, as they are yet to win any Super Series event since
January last year, when they clinched the Men’s Doubles title at the Malaysia Open Super Series 2010.
The 23-year-old Boon Heong is quite optimistic that the pair will raise the Malaysian flag in the World Championships. The duo is currently ranked at Number Four spot in the Men’s Doubles world rankings. In the Indonesia Open, the Malaysian pair could not
deliver the goods and they failed to pass the top-8 round. However, both shuttlers are confident to find their momentum in the world meet.
Boon Heong and Koo Kien delivered a terrific performance in the 2010 World Championships, held in Paris, where the duo reached in final of the event after beating many top pairs. However, they lost the final match to China’s Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng.
While making a comparison between their last year’s performance and current form, Boon Heong said, “We were in the same boat last year. There were no results to show but we rose to the occasion at the world meet. We have the same hunger to make an impact
in the world meet and we will go all out to do well again.”
He further added, “The results in recent tournaments will only spur us to do even better. Kien Keat and I have to improve some areas of our game. If we get that right, we will be able to give more consistent performances against our opponents.”
Boon Heong and Koo Kien are expected to put up a good show in England, as they are considered among the top contenders of the event. The duo is determined to bring glory to Malaysia by playing to their full potential at the world meet.
