Tan Boon Heong shows steely determination to win a gold medal at London Olympics
Tan Boon Heong, a passionate Men’s Doubles shuttler from Malaysia, showed a steely determination by saying that the duo will do their best to win the gold medal despite being inconsistent in the past.
Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat, who are World Number Eight in Men’s Doubles world ranking at the moment, have been showing quivering performance for the last two years as they could not win a major title at international level.
However, Boon Heong does not want to dwell in the past as he wants to put all of his bad memories behind and with his partner Kien Keat will go all out to defy all odds to win the gold medal.
In 2008 Beijing Olympics, Boon Heong and Kien Keat were among the favourites for gold medal but they were inexperienced and could not cope up with the pressure losing to Indonesia’s eventual champions Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan.
The passionate Boon Heong wants to put in extra effort this time and is looking forward to play attacking badminton rather than relying on defensive sort of play.
While talking about the target of Malaysian duo at London Olympics, Boon Heong said that they will fight for the gold medal as it is the dream of every Olympic bound athlete.
He stated, “Athletes compete in the Olympics for gold and it’s the same for me. We have not been playing well and I just don’t want to go out there and give up. I want to fight for gold like anyone else.”
Boon Heong also expressed his feeling about the last edition of Olympics at Beijing by saying that they have a good chance to win but they failed. However, he also said that it is time to look ahead to earn glory at London.
He added, “We had a good chance in Beijing but we didn’t make it count and I don’t know if we can get another opportunity. There is no time left to keep pondering about our weaknesses but just go out there and try our best.”
The determined Boon Heong is very well aware that all other top pairs from China and Korea have been consistently proving their worth but he is determined to do his best with Kien Keat to live up to expectations this time.
