Tan Boon Heong targets Men’s Doubles gold medal at 2012 London Olympics – Badminton news
Tan Boon Heong, Men’s Doubles top shuttler from Malaysia, does not want to dwell in the painful memories of the past and is determined to win the gold medal at the upcoming 2012 London Olympics, which will start at Wembley Arena in London, at the ending
week of current month.
The World Number Eight Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat, who have been showing a poor performance for the last 24 months, have changed their minds now and are confident to live up to expectations this time at the mega event.
Boon Heong expressed the poor performance of the pair will not hamper their chances to fight for the gold at Olympics as they are now ready to use their strength and have no fear of their weaknesses.
While talking about his target at Olympics, Boon Heong expressed that he is aiming for a gold medal as it is the dream of every shuttler to emerge as the winner in this event.
He stated, “The target is gold. That is why everyone wants to play in the Olympics. Our form has been like this (inconsistent) for some time now but we have to try and win, no matter what condition we are in.”
The top Malaysian shuttlers are not strong in their defence but they have a good attack and they want to use this plus point against all of their opponents in Olympics.
He added, “As for me, I just don't want to focus too much on our weakness because it is too late to improve our defending. Our strong point is attack and we will rely on that. We must make sure our condition is good and we also need to be smart in varying
our attacking game.”
Boon Heong and Kien Keat have been working really hard in training for the last couple of months and have also showed a good mental toughness which indicates their determination to shine at Olympics.
The top 16 pairs in Men’s Doubles category will be competing for glory at Wembley Arena and the competition is quite narrow as these best shuttlers have top quality skills which make it quite uncertain about the favourites for title.
