Tan Chun Seang wraps up Men’s Singles title at Yonex Canada Open 2013 – Badminton News
Malaysia’s talented badminton player, Tan Chun Seang, remained consistent in showing up impressive performance and wrapped up Men’s Singles title at the Yonex Canada Open 2013 on Sunday, July 21, in Richmond.
In the title battle, Malaysian shuttler worked really hard and overpowered the second seeded Eric Pang of Netherlands after a thrilling 45-minute contest.
The in-form Chun Seang, who was seeded at number three in Men’s Singles category, stayed fully focused in the final encounter and he emerged as the winner in three games with a reasonable 15-21, 21-11 and 21-16 score on the board.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Pang stated his run in a dominating fashion and he easily won the opening game. However, he could not maintain his upper hand in the following sets and eventually lost the final battle in rubber
sets.
Chun Seang was a bit confused in the starting set as he could not play positive badminton and remained struggling to find a good flow. Until the mid-game interval, he was behind his Dutch challenger on the score board.
After the break, the Malaysian changed his tactics but failed to reduce the gap. He could not create gaps and ultimately lost the first game with a deficit of 15-21.
In the following set, Chun Seang was in a different mood as he played to his maximum potential and took over the control from his rival until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Malaysian man continued his roller-coaster performance by maintaining the pace of rallies. His aggression and accuracy were the major factor that helped him to bag the second game with a one-sided 21-11 score
on the board.
The deciding game was interesting in the starting half when both contestants put up superb show and stayed close on the score board.
However, it was Chun Seang who again occupied the driving seat and played flawless badminton. He did not let the pressure mount on him at the ending points of final set.
Chun Seang was in full control of the pace of rallies at the concluding points of final set and he easily won it with a comfortable 21-16 margin on the score board.
