Tan Kim Her: Injuries to players are crippling my plans
Injuries to Malaysian Men’s Doubles back-up shuttlers have created a not-so-ideal situation for coach Tan Kim Her, who had been working hard to groom the second strength of Malaysia.
Malaysia’s Chooi Kah Ming suffered a knee injury in a training session, which forced him to remain away from competitive badminton for at least six months. Kah Ming went through a knee surgery on Saturday, and is on complete bed rest.
He was supposed to participate in the Thailand Open GP Gold, with his partner Ow Yao Han, but the pair withdrew from the event due to the injury of Kah Ming.
Kim Her said, “It is unfortunate that Kah Ming has to go through this. It was just a simple training routine. He went for shot and landed in a bizarre way. We had to rush him to hospital and he went for immediate surgery.”
While talking about Yao Han’s future in the sport for the next six months, the coach said, “I will have to find a partner for Yao Han as a temporary measure. Injuries are crippling my big plans for these players and it is quite frustrating to start all over
again.”
The Thailand Open will start from Tuesday, June 7, at Bangkok Thailand. The Malaysian coach left Malaysia for Bangkok yesterday with his doubles squad including Yew Hong Kheng – Mak Hee Chun, Goh Wei Shem – Lim Khim Wah and Tan Wee Kiong – Chan Peng Soon.
However, the coach is optimistic that these shuttlers will deliver a good performance in the Thailand Open and will get some positive results by playing against some of the best shuttlers in the world of badminton. The coach is optimistic that his shuttlers
have the ability to beat higher ranked opponents in Thailand.
The Thailand Open will be a severe test for the Men’s Doubles back-up players of Malaysia, as they are set to meet against the higher ranked players from different countries as early as in the opening round of the championship, which will be quite challenging
for the Malaysian youngsters.
