Tan Kim Her intends to continue experimenting to find potential pairs after Olympic Games
Tan Kim Her, Malaysia’s head coach of Doubles, intends to continue experimenting different combinations in Men’s Doubles category to find potential pairs after the 2012 Olympic Games.
He wants different Men’s Doubles pairs to participate in upcoming tournaments and will keenly observe their performance which will help him to make necessary changes in Doubles after Olympics.
According to the coach, the World Number Six Tan Boon Heong – Koo Kien Keat, who are the top shuttlers in Malaysia, will remain stick to their schedule for Olympic Games and will participate in important tournaments in upcoming months.
However, for the rest of the pairs, Kim Her said that they will be tested in upcoming events including German Open, All England Open and Swiss Open.
Teo Kok Siang – Goh V Shem will participate in two events including All England Open and Swiss Open while Mak Hee Chun and Tan Wee Kiong will only compete in All England Open.
Kim Her said that he will observe the performance of back-up pairs in order to find potential shuttlers who could lead Malaysian in the world of badminton.
While talking about his plans, Kim Her said that Boon Heong and Kien Keat will remained focused on Olympics and will participate in selective tournaments, while back-up shuttlers will be sent in different events.
He said, "Kien Keat-Boon Heong's target is the Olympics while the others will be focusing on the 2016 Olympics. They will be tested with new partners from time to time.”
He further added, “Hee Chun-Wee Kiong, who were our main back-up in 2010, lost their form but have shown a lot of improvement recently. Hee Chun has improved on his discipline and attitude and if they show promise in the All England and Swiss Open, I can
give them a second chance.”
Malaysia is facing a dearth of competent shuttlers in Men’s Doubles category as besides Boon Heong – Kien Keat, there is no other pair at the moment who could challenge the top shuttlers of China, Korea, Indonesia and Denmark.
That’s why, Kim Her is making long term plans and wants to get potential players who will represent Malaysia after the 2012 Olympic Games, which will kick off in London in the last week of July.
