Tan Kim Her looking forward to make changes in Men’s Doubles national squad – Badminton news
Malaysia’s Doubles head coach, Tan Kim Her is looking forward to make some changes in the Men’s Doubles national squad by switching the shuttlers in order to put this category on the right track.
However, no change in the national team will be made, particularly for top pairs before 2012 Olympic Games as it will disturb the preparations for mega event, which will start from the last week of July, in London.
Nevertheless, Kim Her can also check shuttlers in the upcoming tournament of Thomas Cup Qualifying Round, which is scheduled to take place in Macau from February 13-19.
In the qualifying matches of Thomas Cup Finals, the Malaysian squad will field three Men’s Doubles pairs including Tan Boon Heong – Koo Kien Keat, Teo Kok Siang – Hoon Thien How and Goh V Shem – Lim Khim Wah.
Kim Her is also observing the performance of Boon Heong and Kien Keat, who are currently World Number Six in the world placements. The duo has been playing under the supervision of Pang Cheh Chang for the last several months.
Currently, all coaches in the doubles squad including, Kim Her, Yoo Yong Sung, Cheh Chang and Rosman Razak are giving a helping hand to Boon Heong and Kien Keat to make them flawless and confident in the court.
While talking about the expected changes in the national doubles squad, Kim Her said that he is making plans for the 2016 Olympic Games. He also made it clear that these changes will be made to only a few pairs after Olympics.
He said, “I plan to establish solid pairs for the next Olympic Games (Rio de Janeiro in 2016). Nobody knows whether Kien Keat-Boon Heong will remain as a pair after London. Things will have settled down after the Olympics and we may have to make some changes to form the best pairings. It won’t involve all the pairs but some need to be re-looked.”
He also said that, “We may field the regular pairs or form scratch partnerships. It all depends on who we play. The coaches will discuss it when the time is right.”
Now Kim Her will remain observant to the Men’s Doubles national pairs and will coordinate with the coaches to make appropriate changes in the best interest of the nation.
