Tan Kim Her observes positive changes in Olympic preparations of Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong
Tan Kim Her, Malaysia’s Doubles head coach, is optimistic for a good performance of country’s top Men’s Doubles shuttlers Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong at 2012 London Olympics as he observed a strong will and determination in their training sessions.
The coach also expressed that the competition is very tough as top 16 pairs in world rankings will be fighting for glory and the skill gap among all pairs is very close.
According to Kim Her, there is no clear favourite to win the gold medal in Olympics as all pairs have got the highest level of skills and it will be interesting to watch them fighting.
While talking about the World Number Eight Kien Keat and Boon Heong, the coach said that except two pairs, the Malaysian shuttlers have played against all opponents and have registered victories over them on different occasions.
The coach also stated that the competition is open for all in Men’s Doubles category as any pair can win the medal.
Kim Her said, “Koo-Tan have beaten every pair who will be in London. Of the 16 qualifiers, they have not played against only two. At this stage, the race for the men’s doubles gold is wide open.”
While talking about the poor performance of Kien Keat and Boon Heong, the coach said that they have been passing through a bad patch but he also told that things will be better now as both shuttlers have shown good changes in training sessions.
He added, “Yes, they have been struggling but I see positive changes in them in training. They are looking very determined.”
Kim Her put emphasis on the mental preparation by saying that determination and strong will is required on court to perform well.
He also stated, “Everyone is putting extra efforts to win at the Olympic Games and it all depends on the players’ strong will and determination on match day.”
Though Kien Keat and Boon Heong have not been showing great performances for a while but their chances of winning a medal at Olympics cannot be completely ruled out as they have what it takes to beat any top pair in the world on a given day.
