Tan Kim Her prefers to stay quiet about future of Kien Keat, Boon Heong – Badminton Update
Malaysia’s Doubles coach Tan Kim Her is not ready to disclose the plan of action for Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong as he is waiting for the coaching and training committee to endorse the decision.
World Number eight duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong was expected to fetch an Olympic medal but they failed to lift the burden of expectations in 2012 London Games and lost to Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng before kneeling down against Chung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae in bronze medal
match.
Men’s Doubles experts came under fire for their failure and national body is thinking to break their seven-year partnership and try them with youngsters.
The badminton guru Kim Her is also mulling to shuffle as he admitted that their recent failure has changed his mind about allowing them to continue until 2014 Asian Games.
However, he did not verify the decision and stated that the coaching and training committee has the ultimate authority to decide their future.
He said, “Although I said that it may not be necessary to split up Kien Keat and Boon Heong then, it seems that things have changed and right now we’re just waiting for the coaching and training committee meeting to commence.”
Earlier, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Seri Nadzmi Mohd Salleh also gave hints about fielding them separately in future events.
The coaching and training committee meeting is expected to be held in third week of this month and badminton lovers are eagerly waiting to know that who will be the new partners.
However, it seems Kim Her has no concern with this make-break couple exercise as he declared that he has finalised the plan of action for prestigious events of next four years.
He said, “I have already laid out the plans for the rest of the year, plus the targets for 2014 and 2016.”
Rumours are there that Hoon Thien How will be the new partner for Tan Boon Heong as they have played together at junior level.
Meanwhile, Kien Keat will be given task to join hand and groom some shuttler from younger lot. He may also show his skills in the Mixed Doubles category.
