Tan Kim Her says Koo Kien Keat - Tan Boon Heong have a chance to win gold medal at upcoming Olympics
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles head coach, Tan Kim Her said that despite passing through a bad patch, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong have a chance to win the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
The coach expressed that Koo Kien and Tan Boon are at the top of their professional career, and the pair can enter their name in the history of the game by becoming the nation’s first Men’s Doubles shuttlers to win the gold medal in Olympic Games.
There is no other Men’s Doubles pair in Malaysia, who could meet the level of Koo Kien and Tan Boon. The second seeds in the country are Lim Khim Wah and Goh V Shem, who are far behind the top seeds in all aspects of the game. The second seeds cannot qualify
for the 2012 Olympic Games unless they win major events.
Kim Her is optimistic that Koo Kien and Tan Boon will get their winning form back soon and perform up to expectations at next year’s Olympic Games. He is willing to do anything for the better performance of the duo in the mega event.
The head coach said, “Next year's Olympics are Kien Keat-Boon Heong's best opportunity to strike gold because this is the prime time of their career. We will try to do everything necessary to ensure they are successful in London.”
He further added, “Both are world class performers and have been around long enough to know what they are capable of. We want to ensure they are provided with a programme that is going to make them feel assured and push hard to regain their form.”
Kim Her also expressed that all coaches in the Doubles squad are confident that the duo will regain the lost form and will be back on the winning track at upcoming events. The Men’s Doubles World Number Five, Koo Kien and Tan Boon will be in action at the
2011 Japan Open Super Series starting on September 20, in Tokyo, Japan.
