Tan Kim Her to propose a special programme for next four years – Badminton News
Men’s Doubles head coach of Malaysia, Tan Kim Her is determined to save the country’s badminton future as he is going to present a four-year plan of action in the next meeting of Coaching and Training Committee (C&T).
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) had to face severe criticism when its campaigners failed to raise the national flag in the 2012 London Olympics.
Now the governing body has decided to start preparations for next edition of the mega event as they have formed a special 2016 squad and Kim Her is going to present a road map for this venture.
The badminton guru announced that he will suggest a four-year programme in Coaching and Training Committee meeting to be held this Saturday.
Kim Her is positive that the national body will give him a green signal to produce world beaters before prestigious events like 2014 Asian and Commonwealth Games and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
He said, "I will propose a comprehensive programme, which I hope will be approved, to prepare the pairs for the 2014 Asian and Commonwealth Games and also the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics."
There has been a debate in Malaysian badminton circles that BAM should appoint a head coach to improve team’s performance but Kim Her stated that only Association has the authority to make decisions.
He also commended James Selvaraj, member of High Performance Team, for his services and briefed the media about his working style.
He said, "(Datuk) James Selvaraj, a member of the committee, is hands-on and demands reports all the time. I like his style; however, it is up to BAM to decide."
Moreover, he also spoke about the future of top Men’s Doubles pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong who is thinking to leave the national squad.
BAM is toying with the idea to split the World Number seven partnership of Kien Keat and Boon Heong to field them with Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah respectively.
Kim Her stated that their future will be decided in the C&T meeting on Saturday and also added that assistant coach Cheh Chang will give his suggestions to improve both shuttlers’ performance.
