Tan Kim Her wants Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat to get back on winning track
Malaysia’s Tan Kim Her, who is the head coach of Men’s Doubles national squad, wants the top Malaysian shuttlers, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat, to get back on the winning track in the upcoming tournaments.
The coach wants Boon Heong and Kien Keat to perform well in the next week’s Korea Open Premier Super Series and the following tournament of Malaysia Open Super Series.
The World Number Six, Boon Heong and Kien Keat, need to perform well in the forthcoming events especially in Malaysia Open as their arch rivals, Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae of Korea, will not participate in this Super Series tournament.
In Korea Open, Boon Heong and Kien Keat are expected to face the Korean duo at the quarter-final stage.
However, there are also chances that the Koreans will not defend their title as Yong Dae, who is having a shoulder injury, is expected to take rest. But it is not yet confirmed whether he will compete in the home event or not.
The Malaysian duo always failed to play dominating badminton against Jae Jung and Yong Dae and lost to them on numerous occasions. Boon Heong and Kien Keat lost 12 times to the Korean rivals in their 14 meeting so far.
This head-to-head comparison shows the superiority of the Korean pair over the Malaysian duo. If Jae Jung and Yong Dae quit from the home event, the Malaysians stand a better chance to reach in the top four.
While talking about the rumours of Yong Dae’s injury, Kim Her said that he also has heard it and the Malaysian pair can take benefit out of it.
He said, “I have heard about it and if it is true, it will be good for Kien Keat-Boon Heong. They have been beaten by the Koreans on too many occasions and they will lose confidence if this trend continues. If the Koreans have withdrawn, at least Kien Keat-Boon
Heong can aim for the semi-finals or further in the premier Super Series event.”
He further added, “They need to put in another 10 per cent effort to improve their fitness and endurance.”
Good results in the upcoming events will boost the confidence of Boon Heong and Kien Keat and they will be ready to win glory at the 2012 Olympic Games.
