Tan Kim Her wants Tan Wee Kiong and Ow Yao Han to be consistent in their elevated performance
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles national coach, Tan Kim Her, wants the back-up shuttlers to be consistent in their performance in all international events. He also expects young pair of Tan wee Kiong and Ow Yao Han, who reached at the semi-final stage of the India
Open Grand Prix Gold, to continue their impressive run in the forthcoming events.
Kim Her appreciated the elevated performance of Wee Kiong and Yao Han, as the pair defeated higher ranked shuttlers in their way to Men’s Doubles semi-final of the India Open.
However, the coach is not happy with their lower performance to Japan’s Shoji Sato and Naoki Kawamae in the event in the semi-final fight where the Malaysian pair lost the match without putting up strong resistance.
Malaysia’s back-up shuttlers, particularly in the category of Men’s Doubles, have been trailing far behind the level of elite shuttlers. They have not yet achieved the highest skills to beat the top players in the arena of badminton. The coach wants them
to put more effort in their training and become top quality players to win glory at international stage.
While talking about the performance of Wee Kiong and Yao Han, the coach said that they need to adopt serious attitude and should remain consistent.
He said, “Yao Han-Wee Kiong need to be more consistent if they are to be taken seriously. They did well in the quarter-finals against tough Indonesian opponents but their performance in the semi-finals wasn’t that good.”
He also said that the performance of back-up players is somewhat better but it is still not the best. They need to work extra hard and get elevation if they want to make their mark over the top players of the world.
Kim Her said, “Overall, the back-up players have made much progress but they can’t afford to blow hot and cold anymore.”
The second stringers of Malaysia need commitment and dedication in their training sessions if they really want to earn glory for the country. Kim Her knows well that if they do not double their effort, they will remain trailing behind the top shuttlers and
will never become world beaters.
