Tan Kim Her wants back-up young shuttlers to prove their mettle at Thailand Open 2012
Malaysia’s national coach for Doubles, Tan Kim Her, wants the young Malaysian pairs Chooi Kah Ming – Ow Yao Han and Teo Ee Yi – Nelson Heg to put up superb show and make their presence strongly felt to the world by performing well at SCG Thailand Open, which is in progress at Bangkok, Thailand.
Chooi Kah and Ow Yao, who are former World Champions in junior category, and their compatriots Teo Ee and Nelson have been playing tremendous badminton in all junior tournaments and now they are ready to shine at the arena of elite shuttlers.
Both pairs are now targeting to elevate their skills while playing in open tournaments which will help them to get an invaluable experience and will also let them learn how to handle the pressure in the court.
In 2009, Chooi Kah and Ow Yao won the World Junior Championship, but they failed to continue their staggering run afterwards as Chooi Kah suffered with a knee injury.
However, in the opening months of current year, Chooi Kah and Ow Yao powered their way back into the court and have been playing impressive badminton in the Axiata Cup and Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold.
Kim Her wants both pairs to show their brilliance in Thailand Open will serve a test to their mental and physical skills and will help them to enhance their craft and groom to become top class shuttlers in a year’s time.
The coach said, “Both pairs are still very young. It will definitely be some time before they start getting some results.”
He further added, “For this tournament, all I want is for them to play to their best potential and score an upset or two against players who are ranked higher. It will be a good experience for them ... hopefully in a year’s time they will become one of the top pairs.”
In the opening round of Thailand Open, Chooi Kah and Ow Yao will face Liu Yi and Terry Yeo of Singapore while the second Malaysian pair of Ee Yi and Nelson will be up against Liao Min Chun and Huang Po Jui of Chinese Taipei.
