Tangerine Trees wins the Qatar Prix De L’Abbaye De Longchamp on 2nd October in the midst of tough competition
On 2nd October, at the Qatar Prix De L’Abbaye De Longchamp, a Group 1 race for thoroughbreds aged two years and above, Bryan Smart trained Tangerine Trees won the event, racing under Tom Eaves, on a field of fifteen horses.
The runner-up was Jane Chapple-Hyam trained Secret Asset who was being ridden by George Baker and third to finish was Edward Lynam’s Sole Power.
Tangerine Trees was ahead of all at the beginning of the race, ridden two furlong out, got driven into the final furlong after which he kept a firm grip on the speed and went through the wire before the rest could challenge or threaten his victory which
was pretty obvious for the rest of the contestants by then.
"It's great for the horse and the owners and I must thank everyone in the yard as after he won his Group Three at Newmarket, he had a niggly back problem and everyone has been great”, said Eaves.
A delighted Eaves registering his first top-level success, added, "It's brilliant - I can't really believe it at the minute. He's progressed all the time and to win, that is just the icing on the cake”.
Secret Asset with George Baker stayed in touch, though they were in the rear initially, they rode to chase the leader over one furlong out, kept on with the pace when entered into the final furlong and were second in lead towards the finish which qualified
him for being the runner-up eventually.
Sole Power who finished the race third by holding up on inner, could not find the track clear due to which he turned right over one furlong out, now at this moment when he was entering the final furlong he had too much clear ground to straight away race
on, a chance that he lost and was thus declared unlucky.
Tangerine Tree has raced five times this year winning thrice out of these five occasions all of them with Tom Eaves onboard.
If he wins the next race he runs, he will qualify for a hat-trick which will enhance his record with a Qatar Prix De L’Abbaye De Longchamp victory already under his belt.
