Tanguy Cariou’s Alinghi takes 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8 title at port of Almeria
Switzerland’s Alinghi led by Tanguy Cariou displayed a consistent performance throughout the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8 to claim the title with 254 points after 32 races. The Swiss team came back on the top from lower podiums and proved their ability
with some excellent sailing on the port of Almeria waters in the region of Andalusia.
The final day of the event provided the 11-boat Extreme 40 fleet with an ideal forecast to make a complete run. Alinghi crew comprising of Tanguy Cariou, Yann Guichard, Nils Frei and Yves Detrey did a great job on their part and sprang up from last spots
in the standings. Swiss team skipper, Cariou is happy with the team’s performance in the circuit.

Cariou, while speaking to the media said, “We are really happy to have at least one win this year. We tried to manage the risks today, we had good boat speed and good team work. It is great for us to have a win here, I am really happy for Yann and the whole
crew. It is really good to show the teams that we can make it.”
On the other hand, Italy’s Luna Rossa led by Max Sirena also made a superb comeback and hit the second spot in the event. The Italian boat had a tussling competition during the act including a tragic incident which involved Groupe Edmond de Rothschild and
Emirates Team New Zealand, but they managed to stay on the podium.
In the meanwhile, Ben Ainslie’s Oman Air finished third following the stunning performance they showed throughout the race climbed up from middle positions. Ainslie and crew are thrilled with their top finish for the third time in the circuit.
