Tank cycling question!

I'm setting up another saltwater tank(55 gal), my other one is species only and I want a little more variety. Last time I cycled I used live rock to seed the tank, but could I use a live rock and add a few damsels too?

Could I use live rock and fish, or should I just stick to live rock- time is not an issue, I know the water changes I would do for the fish would slow the process down. I haven't started anything yet, I'm still deciding how I want to cycle. No water in the tank, I just got the salt mix today.

  1. My boyfriend set up a 55 gal tank in March and he cycled it with live rock for 3 days then added 2 damsels. Then added 2 clown fish two weeks later. He does the water changes every two weeks. The only thing I would do different, get hardy fish because two months after the set up we got a blue hippo and a copperband and they didn't last due to the tank not being established long. =(  Now the tank, fish and rock look great so we might be getting a blue hippo soon.
