Tannery aiming hat trick through the Nijinsky Stakes (Listed Race) at Leopardstown
The Nijinsky Stakes (Listed Race) will be held at Leopardstown over a mile and three furlongs on Friday, 8th June. Majority of the entries for the race have settled in the new season with quite a handful who have been successful during their most
recent tries.
Three of the candidates have proved themselves by claiming their career debuts of their first ever racing season.
The most promising entry for the race is Tannery, Dylan Thomas’ three-year-old bay filly out of mare, Danse Grecque. She has raced only thrice during the new season, scoring second in the debut and then tossing a pair of wins in the two races which presented
themselves.
The Irish filly rolled into the new season on 28th March at Leopardstown over a mile and two furlongs in the Ross Nugent Foundation 3YO Handicap. The race was won by Mayhem Freddie who led the 2/1 favourite runner up of the race, Tannery, by ¾
of a length.
She was paired up with W. J. Lee for the race. Coming at terms with the third position was Asteroid Belt.
The David Wachman trained did not wait for very long to swing into the winning form and bagged the second outing of the season. She won the Follow Dundalk On Facebook 3YO Handicap on 18th April at Dundalk over a mile and two and a half furlongs.
She was riding with W. M. Lordan and they led the runner up of the race, Shabra Emperor, by half a length.
The 6/5 favourite of the race, China One, ended fourth on the track of six.
The three-year-old then conquered the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares) on 6th May at Gowran Park over a mile and one and a half furlongs.
Tannery led the runner up of the race, Soon, by one and a half lengths while riding with N. G. McCullagh.
The 8/13 favourite of the race, Chrysanthemum, ended third on the track of seven.
She has all the chances to move on with her unprecedented success by striking a hat trick today.
