Tannery and Tawariyka bring heat to the Ross Nugent Foundation Handicap at Leopardstown
Ross Nugent Foundation Handicap is scheduled to take place at Leopardstown today on 28th March, 2012. With a purse of €5,520, the fifteen runners will be competing on a good to firm track over 1 mile and 2 furlongs.
Among the racing line-up, Tannery is the one who looks promising enough to take on the rest of the competitors. She will be competing against Don Long, Purple, Money Spider, Tawariyka, Shabra Emperor, Asteroid Belt, Hartside, Spunky, Crouching Harry,
Mr. Lando, Buachaill Tapa, Nickeys On Time, Mayhem Freddie and Porterman.
Tannery will be making her seasonal debut in today’s race. The daughter of Dylan Thomas, out of Danse Grecque has had four starts since her career began on 23rd September, 2011. She finished tenth in a line-up of fourteen runners
in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund 2YO Fillies Maiden at Dundalk.
Under the training of David Wachman, she has improved remarkably. She finished twice as a runner-up towards the end of her first season. On 25th November, 2011, she was teamed with P.J. Smullen, and was defeated by a near negligible
distance of a head by race favourite, Choral Society, in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Median Auction 2YO Fillies Maiden at Dundalk.
She finished second to Sindjara, this time by a slightly wider margin of 2 ½ lengths in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund 2YO Fillies Maiden at Dundalk on 16th December, 2011. Under jockey W.J Lee, she chased the
leaders, but lost concentration in the final furlong, leaving Sindjara to comfortably break through the wire first.
In today’s race, Wachman and owner Mrs. D. P. Magnier will be keeping their fingers crossed, hoping the three-year-old will finally bag a victory.
Tawariyka, the three-year-old bay filly, has shown immense promise. In the seasonal debut, she impressed her connections, trainer M. Halford and owner, H.H. Aga Khan, as she emerged triumphant by defeating Merkel by ½ a length in the Dundalk 3YO Fillies
Maiden at Dundalk on 20th January, 2012.
Under the same jockey G.F. Carroll, she continued into the Leucillin Horseware Ireland 3YO Handicap at Dundalk on 3rd February, 2012. This time she stood third, missing a finish as a runner-up by a narrow margin of a nose.
In today’s race, she will be mounted by J. Murtagh, who is determined to guide her towards victory. She is one of the strongest runners in this line-up, who will be an obstacle in Tannery’s way.
Tannery is the speculated winner, but it will not be an easy run for her. Both these runners have tremendous appeal and are gaining popularity in the market. It will be a close finish and it may end up in a dead heat.
