Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk earns a spot in Men’s Singles semi-finals – Korea Open Update
Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk continued with his top form and escorted his country to semi-finals of Korea Grand Prix Gold after beating Kuei Chun Shih on Friday, December 7, 2012.
This Men’s Singles quarter-final match was played at the local badminton complex of Hwasun-gun, Korea and he locked the honour with an impressive result of 10-21, 22-20 and 21-19.
Both contenders remained head-to-head for 64 minutes and their honest effort was applauded by the crowd.
The Thai campaigner displayed commendable fighting spirit as he came back from a horrendous start and finished this tussle in a favourable manner.
On the other hand, Kuei Chun failed to capitalise his first set win and crashed out of this GP Gold event.
In the opening game, the Taipei shuttler looked in prime touch as he ruled the court throughout this crucial set.
He laid foundation of his supremacy by prevailing in the establishing rallies and then doubled the impact with few uninterrupted points.
He placed an indomitable total of 11 before the announcement of break and made best out of this initial advantage in latter part of the game.
Though, Tanongsak strived hard to tip the scale in his favour but he surrendered after reading 10-21 score on the board.
However, he managed to make amends in very next game and brought the contest to right balance.
The World Number 57 Thai player took some time to come out of his rival’s influence and this resulted in a tight margin before the interval.
After the mid-game break, he showed a transformed character and prevailed in couple of uninterrupted rallies.
Tanongsak lost the grip in third quarter of the set but then few productive strokes reinstated his dominance and he won this set with 22-20 total.
There was a smooth road to victory for him in the decider as he established a decent lead in no time and maintained that upper hand all the way to game point situation.
He finished first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11 and then swept the table with 21-19 margin.
Now Tanongsak will lock horns with Zi Liang Derek Wong in the semi-finals of Korea Open Grand Prix Gold.
