Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk moves forward to semi-finals of 2012 Syed Modi International India GPG
Thailand’s talented shuttler Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk played impeccable badminton in the quarter-final round of Syed Modi International India GPG and ensured his presence in the semi-finals on December 20, 2012.
He stamped Srikanth K of India in a brief meeting which ended with concluding figures of 21-16 and 21-12.
This straight-set tussle took place in local badminton complex of Lucknow where a huge crowd assembled to support the native shuttler.
Tanongsak, who holds 14th spot in this GP Gold event, employed all of his brilliance and ruled the court in both segments of the showdown.
On the other hand, lack of experience and confidence hit Srikanth hard as he had to face a woeful exit.
The first set of match heated up with couple of gruelling rallies and both contenders challenged each other in all areas of game to establish a comfortable lead.
They remained close on points table in the preliminary stage but then the Thai campaigner made a notable difference with couple of consecutive points.
Tanongsak did not lose this momentum and left his challenger far behind with a significant total of 11.
After the mid-game break, he picked up some pace and widened the gap with few back-to-back productive rallies.
The Indian player looked completely out of touch in third quarter of the set and this bad patch ultimately led him to a disgraceful defeat.
He kept trailing behind his competitor until game point situation and gave up this futile chase after reading 16-21 score on the board.
Next game was relatively a one-sided affair as Srikanth hardly put any resistance in latter part of the game and knelt down tamely.
Meanwhile, Tanongsak showed consistency in his performance and wrapped this showdown in a favourable manner.
Though, he was bit sluggish in the beginning and this passive approach allowed his opponent to stay close on the points table but then a power packed campaign provided him the required momentum.
The Thai shuttler made best out of this flow and finished first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11 and then swept the table with a convincing figure of 21-12.
This win took him to the semi-final round where he will lock horns either with Alamsyah Yunus or H.S. Prannoy.
