Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk ousts Alamsyah Yunus in semi-finals of 2012 Syed Modi International
Men’s Singles expert Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand became finalist of Syed Modi International India GPG after beating Alamsyah Yunus in the semi-final round on December 22, 2012.
Both contenders locked horns in the local badminton arena of Lucknow and this meeting ended in just two games.
However, it was not an easy win for the Thai campaigner as he had to face great resistance from his opponent.
The lower ranked but spirited Tanongsak played flawless badminton and locked the honour with an impressive result of 21-14 and 21-17.
He laid foundation of his dominance straight away in the beginning of first set and kept his challenger under control all the way to game point situation.
Tanongsak mounted pressure by prevailing in few consecutive rallies and then doubled the impact by adding many valuable points in his total.
This positive approach helped him all the way to half time and he managed to finish first half of the set with a notable margin on the board.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian contestant strived hard to counterbalance the situation but he could not tip the scale in his favour.
However, he showed great fighting spirit in latter part of the game and raised his chances of success by clinching some vital points without any interruption.
At this stage, Tanongsak switched on the best in him and reinstated his dominance in splendid manner. He maintained a significant difference of seven points and won this set with 21-14 score on the board.
The following game was filled with lot of drama as at one stage Alamsyah Yunus was in commanding position but then the Thai shuttler struck hard and turned the tables.
Initially, Alamsyah played with right attitude and fortitude to come out of his rival’s influence and he remained successful.
He kept on moving forward at steady pace before the interval but then few back-to-back mistakes put his expedition to halt.
On the other hand, Tanongsak did not squander this counterattack opportunity and stormed back with a strong reply.
He levelled the score at 17-17 and bagged four consecutive points to seal his splendid win with 21-17 total.
