Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk topples Ji Hoon Hong in pre quarter-final round – Korea Open Update
Thailand’s talented shuttler Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk continued his unbeatable run in Men’s Singles event of Korea Grand Prix Gold and cleared third round on Thursday, December 6, 2012.
He intercepted Ji Hoon Hong en route to the quarter-finals by registering an overwhelming figure of 21-17 and 21-17.
This tussle was staged at the local badminton arena of Hwasun-gun, Korea and a huge crowd assembled to encourage the native shuttler.
However, it was a sheer disappointment for them as Ji Hoon failed to rise on his toes and surrendered tamely.
The local player lost control over the game straight away in the beginning when Tanongsak unleashed a series of productive strokes and gained an early advantage.
The Thai campaigner did not lose his grip and mounted pressure by gathering valuable points at steady pace.
His strategy was so complete that the Korean shuttler could not find even a single counterattack opportunity.
Until the announcement of break, Ji Hoon was trailing behind his rival on the points table and this deficit proved too much for him in latter part of the game.
On the other hand, Tanongsak made best out of his initial advantage and transformed it into an unassailable lead.
He strengthened his grip by prevailing in few uninterrupted rallies in third quarter of the set and then served notice of his supremacy with a significant margin of 21-17.
This first set win gave him a real boost and he played with even more conviction in the following game which proved decider later.
Tanongsak, who is fourth seeded player in this tournament, made his intentions clear by ruling the court in the establishing rallies.
He carried this flow all the way to final stage of game and sent Ji Hoon packing with an overwhelming result.
Though, some unforced errors brought him down in third quarter of the set but he managed to end this bad patch and locked the honour.
The underrated Thai shuttler proved his worth by sealing a splendid victory with 21-17 score. Now he is all set to take on Kuei Chun Shih of Chinese Taipei and win will take him into the semi-finals of this prestigious event.
