Tanvir Dar Hockey Academy successfully defends its MOP International Tournament title in Netherlands
Tanvir Dar Hockey Academy (HA) has succeeded in defending its MOP International under-15 tournament title in Holland by defeating HDM by 3-0 in the final.
The tournament was played in Vught near Eindhoven in which ten teams from Holland, Germany and Pakistan participated. The final of the tournament was played between the same sides which had played the finals last year, Tanvir Dar Hockey Academy, the winner
of last year’s tournament and HDM Hague and the runner-up.
One minute silence was observed before the start of the play, in the memory of late Munir Dar, the former Olympian and the legend of Pakistan hockey, who was laid to rest a few days before. It was a way to acknowledge the services and contributions of the
legend, Munir Dar, to the sport of hockey. Both of the teams, officials as well as the crowd was also involved in the process.
As the match started, the Greenshirts looked quite determined and resolute as they had some purposes and targets in their minds. Their intensions were clearly shown when the Greenshirts opened the account in the third minute of the first half. The Pakistani
side was awarded a penalty-corner to which Bilal Mahmood did not make any mistake and scored the first goal of the match. It was just a matter of two minutes when Tanvir Dar Hockey Academy doubled their lead in the fifth minute, when Waqas scored a beautiful
indirect goal on their second penalty-corner.
Leading the match by 2-0 just from the start, the Greenshirts did not stop their efforts and consistently kept on pressing their opponents. It was the 13th minute when Rizwan, the captain of the Greenshirts, displayed a blistering running effort,
breaking the defence-line and entered into the circle of HDM. It was not just the charismatic run, Rizwan made a forceful shot to the goal-post which was stopped by the goal-keeper. However, Bilal once again finished it scoring his second and the third goal
of the match and tripled the lead. Bilal Mahmood has scored 17 goals in the tournament. The HDM side remained merely the spectators in the first half. In short, first half ended at same score, 3-0 to Tanvir HA.
In the second half, the Dutch side reshaped themselves and tried to block the attacking Greenshirts in which they remained quite successful because no further goal was scored in the remaining part of the match. The final score remained at 3-0 to Greenshirts,
similar to last year’s score.
