Tanvir Dar Hockey Academy takes an impressive start in the European Tour
Tanvir Dar Hockey Academy (HA), one of the most promising hockey institutions in the country, has arrived in Netherlands for the European tour campaign after which they would travel to Germany.
A few hours prior to the first match, the players and the team management were traumatised when they came across the news about fatal death of Olympian Munir Dar, one of the Pakistan hockey legends and intellectuals and also the founder of Tanvir Dar Hockey
Academy, which is currently being managed by his son Tauqeer Dar. The management initially decided to postpone the match, but later on they changed their decision after having a telephone call from Tauqeer Dar.
The match was played against Tilberg HC A1 Under-18 side, before beginning of the match, both the teams observed silence for one minute while Dar Hockey Academy players played the match wearing the black arm-bands.
The match started with a speedy tempo, as both of these sides displayed some beautiful and wonderful moves in the first half. The hosts, Tilberg HC, were awarded two penalty corners in a very short span of time during the first half, but they failed to convert
those opportunities in goals. They also had an almost perfect field opportunity, but the result remained the same, missed it once again.
On the other side, Dar HA were too finding their chances as they started playing in their own terms and it did not took too long in opening their account. In the 12th minute it was Awais Zahid, with a beautiful and skilful stick work, who did
not leave any flaw in putting the ball into the net, a wonderful field goal. Prior to this opening goal Dar HA had two chances, a field chance and a penalty corner, as well which was stopped by the goal-keeper. It did not take more than eight minutes, when
in the 20th minute Dar HA scored another goal on their third penalty corner, doubling the lead. This time, the scorer was Bilal Mahmood. The first half finished at 2-0 to Dar HA.
The second half was even more electrifying, but unluckily no more goals were scored until the end of match. Dar HA continued their obstinate attacks and created a number of chances, but remained goal-less in the second half due the lack of efficiency in
finishing. Tilberg HC also had their chances in the form of penalty corners, but they too failed in making any impression. Even in the 49th minute they had a penalty stroke, but unfortunately the ball hit on the top bar and fell down. The match
closed at the score 2-0 to Dar HA.
