Question:

Taos Ski Valley no more?

Is anyone else totally devastated that Taos is no longer a SKIERS ONLY site? The numbers of these locations are dwindling across the U.S. and it hurts. Is anyone out there feeling the burn?

  1. I'm so pissed!!!

My friends had a ranch out there that i went to a few times during the summer and then we would go out to taos in the winter...it was great not seeing any of those rowdy snowboarders on the trails, pushing all the snow to the side of the trail and acting like low lives. And then snowboarders say that skiers push the snow too. Yea we do...we push it into moguls, which makes it even more fun...all the snowboarders do is make the trail a giant sheet of ice with a mound of snow on the side!! And that sound, the sound of the board going sideways...it hurts my ears and scares me when they're coming up behind me...

at least we still got alta and deer valley.

  2. First off...this is old news. But since you asked.......

I personally think the owners should be able to make the choices they need to in order to maintain the viability of their resort. MRG, Alta, and Deer Valley have obviously decided to maintain the ban on snowboards because it pays off to do so at their resorts. If a resort chose to ban skiers and maintain a "Snowboards Only" policy, I would have to say, "Well obviously they don't want my money." I don't appreciate the comments made about "Elitist Skiers." Similarly, if you don't like the Taos's decision to allow snowboarders, then vote with your feet and dollars and take your $$$ someplace else.

If Mad River suddenly decided to allow snowboarding there's not much I can do about it (yet...I'm buying a share in the Co-Op this season...and yes, I will vote to maintain the ban.) And I don't think it would make me want to ski there any less. Most of the snowboarders you find outside the park are pretty tame nowadays. The idiots are down on the rails and boxes, not usually on the big hill. I can't tell you how much more enjoyable the bigger resorts are now that the idiots are contained to the parks...riders and skiers alike. Likewise, boneheads from both camps will always venture out onto the double-blacks. A jackass 2-planker in front of you plowing the snow down an expert slope is just as bad as a moron knuckledragger going down sideways.

Anyway...as long as I can get some good pizza at the Outback I'm a happy boy when in Taos.

  3. I agree with everything Rob S said a 110%.  Its the snowboarders who make a trail of ice, always on their a**, most of them go from point  A to point B straight down the mountain and couldn't stop if their life depended on it. But things are changing. We have to live with it, if we like it or not. I am feeling it. All I can do is sigh.

  4. HAHAHA! I was there for opening day- On my snowboard with tons of other people, snowboards and skiers alike and I think it is great they they made that change more power to them! They will defiantly be making a lot more money because that's what the new craze is now every one in the family- mom, dad, little billy and Jenny can all go not just the skiers, it;s just a matter of time until Alta, Deer Vally, and Mad River Glen open up to the snowboarders so I guess all I can say is enjoy it well you still can! Taos is great I am from New Mexico and Taos is close to me! You need to just get over it already. PS I can ride moguls probably better than you!

-Ok I fixed my spelling if that makes you happy-BUT the point is the same GET OVER IT!

  5. Its sad to see skiers in here complaining about sharing the mountain with snowboarders.  I thought those days were over.  I see just as many skiers being rude and not respecting their fellow skiers and riders as snowboarders these days, maybe even more.  Snow is there for everyone to enjoy, no matter how many planks you are on.  Whats next, ban telemark skis on the mountains?  Short skis?  Ski Cycles?  There are lots of ways to get down the mountain.  You should only worry about how YOU are going to get down.

  6. That's right!!!  Me and my knuckle draggin' buddies were up there last season rippin' it. Taos is a beautiful moutain that should be shared by all, skiers and boarders. You guys really need to get over yourselves, that elitist attitude makes me sick! Take your attitude and your money to Alta (while you still can) you will not be missed.
